Alright, the schedule is set.
9/27 - Historic Preservation Society 5K in downtown Columbus
10/4 - Currahee Challenge 3 miles up & 3 miles down in Toccoa, GA
11/1 - Callaway Gardens Twilight 10K at Callaway Gardens
1/17/09 - Auburn Classic Half Marathon in Auburn, AL (not registered yet)
The next week and a half should be fun!
The 5k should be a good one. It's down in the historic district downtown so it will be very flat. I'm hoping for a finish time there of better than 26'. I doubt there is any way I could hit an 8' pace, but 8'30" might be attainable. We'll see.
For Currahee, I'm a little nervous. 3 miles up at a 5.4% grade...yikes. and then somehow my toothpick thighs have got to carry me back down those same 3 miles. I run hills everytime I run in Columbus, but only as I encounter them on my routes. I'm not doing any hill specific training. However, I'm in a lot better shape than I was last year for the MWTC 10k, and I finished that...albeit with stops. I'm psyched about this race though because of the historic rammifications. I'll touch on those more later.
I've run twice this week (Mon and Tues). Yesterday was a Cordele run. 3.96 in 35'53".
Today's run was a 2 mile out and 2 mile back after work. Temp was about 85F, but there was a nice breeze blowing. So, 4 miles 37'34". Pace was only 9'24", but this was the 1st time I've run 3 days in a row. I think I'll probably rest the next two days leading up to the 5k on Saturday.

Man, I have been lazy!
For no real reason other than the sloth got me, I only got in 1 run last week. So this week, I am hoping to get in at least 5 runs and put up 20 miles. I've got a lot of work to do at this point...
When the alarm went off this morning at 4:30, I argued with myself a bit about getting up. I guess the layoff last week (where I didn't answer the alarm on any day but Monday) made it more difficult to get up. But as I was having this heated discussion in my head about running or not running, being a lazy ass or just being an ass, my feet hit the floor. It was like without even realizing it, I was up and getting on my shoes. Crazy, man, crazy.
In spite of the weak week of last, I am still leaning toward Currahee. I've got until Friday to decide.
