Twilight 10K

It was a beautiful afternoon up at Callaway for the race. Temp was right around 70F and with the run starting at 5pm, the setting sun against the changing trees around the lake was just perfect. As for the run, I'm still struggling with the chest congestion, but I managed to avoid problems with it until the end of the 5th mile. Then I started having trouble getting clear breaths and started coughing a bit.

The race seemed just a bit longer than 6.2 miles, but being my first official 10k, I don't know for sure. All I know was that there was a 6.2 mile marker about .2 mile short of the finish. I kept my splits on my watch. See below.

Splits:
Mile 1 - 8:54
Mile 2 - 9:35 (I intentionally slowed here wanting to stay above a 9:00 mile pace)
Mile 3 - 9:30
Mile 4 - 9:37
Mile 5 - 9:21
Mile 6 - 9:32
6.2 mark - 1:56
To Finish - 2:04

Total Time - 1:00:30

This was much slower than I wanted to go, but with the chest issue, I was intentional in not pushing it. If nothing else, it gives me a good benchmark to improve on.

Chilly Monday

A cold front has come through and left us with delightful temps (mid 50s dropping into the 30s at night) but also a pretty steady breeze. It's nice to feel fall weather for a change though. I hope it sticks around for a while.

Schedule has been a bit crazy lately again. After last weeks riverwalk 10k, I was not able to run again as Stacey went out of town and didn't get back until last night. I was up early and on the road to Cordele this a.m., but fate brought me back to Columbus this afternoon so I finally got out for a run this evening. 3.1m in 27'50". Just over 9 minute pace. I've been struggling with a bit of a chest cold for the last week and I actually started wheezing during this run. I went through a bout of walking pneumonia last year. I hope this isn't another round. We'll see.

The Callaway Twilight 10k is this weekend. I'll get in another couple of runs this week and then rest for the race. This run also marks the beginning of my half marathon training. The 3 miles today officially kicks it off.

This is what it feels like outside...
